QC Memories 2024

I just wanted to thank the Office of Alumni Relations for the beautiful graduation ceremony. I just want you to know that it wasn’t taken for granted. Everything you did was recognized. We saw your efforts in everything. I want to thank you once again making my day and a lot of other people’s days.

Class of 1954

My friend Ronald Braut ’74 and I ran one of the first functions at the newly constructed Student Union. I had a wonderful experience at the Commencement and 50th year reunion celebration. The legend continues as my daughter Melissa Cholewa graduates with a Masters degree in Library Science this year!

I still have some incredible memories from 50+ years ago at QC. There can be no greater influence on my career after graduation than John Loret, SEES. To this day, he was the greatest model of how to make learning come alive and stick. Much of my career after QC was in public education and then corporate training.

I remember so well the multiple Dr. Filante economics classes I took. Due to his positive influence, I changed my major to Economics and it really has been critical to success in my life. However, his stories about teaching football legends Bob Griese and LeRoy Keyes economics, while at Purdue, were legendary! How blessed I was to be given the opportunity of a college education. First in my family to graduate college. It was a springboard to the rest of my life.

I just wanted to thank the Office of Alumni Relations and all who were involved in making this past Reunion such a success! I did not know what to expect but it was fabulous!! I truly enjoyed myself. Everyone was so nice, professional and accommodating. The graduation ceremony was very nice; it brought back fond memories. The food was very tasty. The presentation by our College President were very nice as well. Everything was SPECTACULAR!!! I look forward to our next one.

Class of 1980 and 1984

As one of the youngest graduates in 1954 (I was still 19 at the time) I did not expect many of my classmates to still be around for this celebration. But memories of four happy but strenuous years are many… My first job on campus as a stack boy in the old library… Playing soccer in 1950 next to a field with cows in it… Carrying all my chem lab stuff from the old building to brand new Remsen Hall… The pleasure of getting my BS in chemistry with all my family there in 1954.

I came to QC with a BA started at Nassau Community College (1963) when I was 31 with 5 sons. I came with my son Richard Sullivan. I earned my BA and Teaching Certificate. I am 93 years old. I recently published my first book “Memoirs to Poetry and Paint” by Sarah Sullivan Arp. My son graduated with me!

I remember the Fridays in the Union! The best burgers and the best fries for $3! The music was great and my friends and I just enjoyed being together before heading out for our Friday evening jobs. Queens College provided education and fun at the same time!

Class of 1984

I met my long time friend Suzanne Martin Culweil at one of my Education Classes! Thanks to her I am here today! I loved the children’s literature class. I also enjoyed the children’s music class. Both of these classes were extremely useful! I am grateful to Queens College for also granting me a Masters degree in Early Childhood Education.
