” Discimus ut Serviamus: We learn so that we may serve”

Welcome to The Queens College Foundation

 Queens College is
A Place to Make a Difference!

Welcome!

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Thank you for taking a moment to visit our website. It is a pleasure to welcome you and provide you with a glimpse of what Queens College looks like today.

Through the years we have experienced dramatic transformations – the campus is vaster, our student body is increasingly diverse, and our academics and student offerings are more innovative than ever before. This progress inspires us to continue working on behalf of our students to fulfill their dreams of pursuing a first-class education at an affordable cost. Like you or alumni you may know, many of our students are immigrants, first-generation students, or the first in their families to go to college.

Times have changed, but our mission hasn’t. However, continuous cuts in government support for public education have compelled us to seek out funding from alternative sources. Private philanthropy has become an increasingly critical component of public university funding. At QC, this support has facilitated the fulfillment of countless needs, such as capital and programmatic improvements, faculty research, and graduate level scholarships, just to name a few. We cannot sustain our mission without you.

There is no greater way to leverage a gift than to invest in Queens College and our future. Your support can make an incredible impact. Thank you for your generosity!

Sincerely,
Laurie Dorf

Why I Support Queens College

Forbes and Lyn Hill

LYN S. HILL ’67, ’72 (MA)

Lyn encourages her fellow alumni to establish scholarship funds that make a difference in the lives of dedicated, hard-working students with financial needs. “It is our family’s hope that the family and friends of other QC faculty members and alumni will replicate this model in honor of a loved one,” Lyn notes. “Many people will find that if they ask friends and family members to honor or memorialize a loved one with a gift to the College, they can be responsible for raising a surprising amount of money.” Forbes Hill passed away in November 2008, but his legacy lives on through his scholarship, and the students who will benefit from it for generations to come.

Alice and Russ Artzt

ALICE '68 AND RUSS '68 ARTZT

“I have a strong allegiance to Queens College,” says Russ, reflecting on his roots at QC. “Meeting Alice and my business partner there set the foundation for my business and personal life.” Both Alice and Russ deeply respect the hardworking nature of the students and recognize that a majority of them receive tuition assistance and still work to support themselves. Alice comments, “I walk on campus and I feel honored to work with these students. I am in awe of them.”  Russ adds, “Queens welcomes students of all cultures from countries all around the world. Most of the students are of humble roots, as Alice and I are. We can relate to them from our background.”  Alice agrees. “Queens is a place where you can fulfill your dreams no matter who you are and where you come from,” she concludes. “You feel part of the whole world.”

Alice and Russ believe so strongly in the mission of Queens College: We learn so that we may serve. “It is so in keeping with everything I do and my students are going to do – learn to give back,” Alice explains. “Help others. That’s what QC did for me. I’m trying to live that mission.”

Your Gift At Work

Arturo Soto

ARTURO SOTO

“At 17 years old, I lost my vision, and dreams like higher education slipped through my grasp every day as my independence was threatened. Queens College appeared on my rugged path like a hidden gem and offered me an opportunity to be the better human and student I always knew I could be. Queens College allows its students to explore interests that birth new passions. I never imagined I would be passionate about anthropology, much less be an honors student. I thought my disability had stolen that from me, but Queens College offered me an environment to triumph over adversity. I am grateful every day for my scholarship, Queens College, and its donors, who thanks to their generous support, give students like myself the ability to pursue their passions without the inherent fear of financial hardship.”

“Being a scholarship recipient has benefited me because I am able to continue my education without worrying about finances. Additionally, being a part of THP has helped me navigate Queens College more easily as a transfer student and has given me access to many resources. I am grateful for the support and opportunities that have been given to me as a transfer student at Queens College, and I look forward to a great college experience.”

“Queens College has an exceptionally demanding computer science program that has not only tested my limits but also has propelled me to reach new heights. Joining the THP has been an absolute gift, not only for the invaluable financial support it provides but also for the remarkable sense of community it offers. During moments of uncertainty, I’ve consistently felt a strong support network by my side. I am profoundly thankful and eager to pay forward the investments made in me, fostering both my academic and professional journey.”
