The Third Annual Gala for RCKC, Friday, November 16, 2012

On Friday, November 16, 2012, the Third Annual Gala for the Research Center for Korean Community at Queens College was held at Dae Dong Manor in Flushing, Queens. Over 200 people attended, including four recipients of our Center’s dissertation scholarships from 2011 and 2012, local Korean business leaders, various CUNY faculty members, members of the New York-New Jersey Korean community, and prominent politicians, including the keynote speaker, Rhea Suh (Assistant Secretary for Policy, Budget, and Management for the U.S. Department of the Interior).

The gala featured speeches by our esteemed Board Members and Queens College President James Muyskens, and the keynote address was given by Assistant Secretary Rhea Suh. Assistant Secretary Suh gave an inspiring and articulate speech, reinforcing the importance of our Research Center and also calling for younger Korean Americans to take a more active role in government and other forms of public service. The gala also featured a performance of Seungmu (승무), a traditional Korean Buddhist dance that is known as the Monk’s Dance.
