2nd BA Program

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Program offers two options for those applicants who have already obtained a bachelor’s degree and wish to take courses that are required for application to Graduate School in Speech-Language Pathology:
- Option A – 2nd BA Prerequisites Track (minimum of 29 Credits, no degree awarded)
- Option B – 2nd BA Full Degree Track (minimum of 45 Credits of classes taken at QC, grants a second BA)
Please read all of the information carefully!
Students who have an undergraduate degree in another field (related or unrelated to Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology) and who would like to change career paths can take advantage of either of our 2nd BA Program options listed above.
Students accepted into this program will choose either:
- Option A – Enroll in a sequence of pre-requisite courses in the Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) major which are required for entry into any master’s programs in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology.
Total of 29 credits (plus additional courses needed for graduate school, such as Statistics).
Or
- Option B – Enroll in the full undergraduate curriculum in CSD.
Total of 45 credits (plus additional courses needed for graduate school, such as Statistics). All 45 credits must be taken at Queens College.
Application Process
To be eligible for either Option A or Option B, students must do both of the following:

- Apply to and be accepted into the 2nd BA Program in the Communication Science and Disorders major. When accepted, the student will choose the option they would prefer to follow to complete coursework.

Admissions
Admission to the 2nd BA Program is a competitive process. To be eligible to apply, students must have had a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 in their first BA. Applications are accepted throughout the year and are reviewed for acceptance on a rolling basis (Spring/Fall).
- Once accepted into the program, each student will have an opportunity to meet with their advisor in small groups for informational sessions. Individual advising sessions can be arranged when needed.
- If accepted into the program, and the student is pursuing the Prerequisites Track (Option A), it is highly recommended that all the prerequisite classes be taken at Queens College. If the student has elected to earn a full 2nd BA degree (Option B), it is a requirement that all required credits be taken in residence at Queens College (min. 45 Credits).
- Please note: Admission into the undergraduate 2nd BA Program at Queens College is unrelated to acceptance into the Graduate Program in Speech-Language Pathology at Queens College.
- Students enrolled in our 2nd BA Program do not have an advantage for acceptance into the Queens College Graduate Program over other applicants.

For ALL 2nd BA students:
Students are typically enrolled in two or three courses a semester.
In addition to the courses listed below, graduate schools in Speech-Language Pathology require students to have taken courses in statistics, biology, and physics. Please check the websites of any of the graduate programs that you are interested in to see if there are additional admission requirements.

There are some differences between the courses required for the 2nd BA Prerequisites Track and the ‘regular’ 1st BA (e.g., the 2nd BA Prerequisites Track does not require students to take LCD 105 and LCD 316). Completion of the 2nd BA Prerequisites Track takes 3 to 4 semesters. Students do not receive a degree when they complete the pre-requisite course sequence. |
Courses follow the same sequence as required of the ‘regular’ 1st B.A. students. Completion of the CSD major courses for the 2nd BA Full Degree Track takes about 5 to 6 semesters. Students do receive a 2nd BA degree when they complete the required coursework. Courses that can be taken any time: 12-13 credits:

First Level: 15 credits No pre-requisites required.
We strongly encourage students NOT to request to be enrolled in LCD 207 AND LCD 208 in the same semester. Certain minimum grades must be reached to continue to second level courses. (See below). |
First Level: 9 credits
Must obtain a 3.0 or above GPA average across these 3 courses. One course retake allowed. |

Second Level: 14 credits
It is recommended that if you received a grade lower than a C in a 300-level course, you retake this course. |
Second Level: 9 credits
Must obtain a B- in each class. One course retake allowed. We strongly encourage students NOT to request to be enrolled in LCD 207 AND LCD 208 in the same semester. |

Third Level: 17 credits If you qualify for a 300-level course (achieve at least a B- in the prerequisite course), you may take it without completing all the 200 level courses.
No grade lower than a C will count toward this major. |
