The Speech-Language-Hearing Center

As of the Fall 2021, the Queens College Speech Language Hearing Center will be operating in a temporary space while our building undergoes a renovation.  We will be located across the street from the Main Gate in Kissena Hall 2, first floor, 64-19 Kissena Blvd., Flushing, New York 11367.  Speech language evaluations and therapy services are offered both in person and via telepractice.  Please contact speechcenter@qc.cuny.edu or 718-997-2946 for details and assistance.

The Queens College Speech Language Hearing Center is a unique and highly respected university program that has served children and adults across the lifespan in the Queens community since 1942.  The focus of our Center is to provide quality clinical services in assessment and treatment to children and adults with communication disorders; prepare graduate students to become speech language pathologists who are responsive to the communication needs of a culturally linguistically diverse population; and to further knowledge about communication disorders and their effective assessment and treatment.

About the Center

The Speech Language Hearing Center is located in the Gertz Building, a one-story building in an accessible and conveniently located part of the Queens College campus.  The Center houses the graduate education program in Speech Language Pathology, The Speech Language Hearing Center, and offices for many of the program’s faculty. The Center also serves as a laboratory for graduate students, undergraduate students in communication sciences and disorders, and faculty involved in applied clinical research.

The Speech Language Hearing Center serves a varied population of children and adults across the lifespan with speech and language needs. Services are available Monday – Friday until 7pm.  All clients are assigned to a ASHA certified and NYS licensed speech language pathologist who will provide direct assessment and treatment services along with one-to-one clinical mentorship for assigned graduate students. Available Services

The Center provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services for children and adults with a wide range of speech and language needs:

• Acquired Language Disorders (Aphasia, Traumatic Brain Injury)
• Articulation Therapy
• Apraxia of Speech
• Language production and/or processing difficulties
• Literacy (reading, writing)
• Stuttering / speech fluency
• Voice Therapy

Communication enhancement services are also offered for those who are interested modifying an accent or improving English Language intelligibility.

Specialty program for people with Parkinson’s

The Queens College Speech-Language-Hearing Center (QCSLHC) is pleased to offer Reclaiming Your Voice – an effective speech therapy program designed to help people with Parkinson’s improve their communication skills. The program is led by certified speech-language pathologists and uses SPEAK OUT!® therapy approaches established by Parkinson Voice Project (PVP). Individual therapy is provided during the SPEAK OUT!® program and emphasizes the importance of speaking with intent. Upon successful completion, clients graduate to weekly group sessions developed to provide education, support and maintenance of newly acquired communication strategies. Where Are We?

We are temporarily located in Kissena Hall 2 at 64-19 Kissena Boulevard while our regular building is undergoing renovations. Kissena Hall is located across the street from the college campus, just off Exit 24 of the Long Island Expressway. It is also accessible by subway and municipal buses.

What Does It Cost?

While the Center does not accept insurance payments, we will be pleased to assist you in completing the necessary forms for reimbursement from your insurer. The center also has scholarship funds available for persons who may have financial difficulty. Some of these funds are made available by grants from the New York Community Trust.
