Research & Professional Interests

I have a teaching and research interest in the interplay between digital media and learning within a social context. My scholarship is built around the idea that humans and the technologies they build are bound together and any analysis of one must consider the other.

In my research, I examine the knowledges and practices within communities as they reconfigure technologies to meet their needs. In the classroom, I draw on my research to demonstrate how the design and implementation of technical systems have reciprocal relationships within a larger social context and that the uses of emerging technologies lead to multiple and sometimes paradoxical effects.
