Research Interests

My research interests include modern Chinese literature and cultural studies.

Classes

With a Master’s degree in comparative literature and PhD in Chinese literature, I have taught elementary, intermediate, and classical Chinese, as well as Chinese fiction reading, Chinese drama reading and modern Chinese fiction in translation. I am interested in offering Chinese courses in specific areas, such as business Chinese and newspaper Chinese.

Publications

I have published articles on contemporary Chinese fiction, China’s image in Victorian literature, the Chinese influence on contemporary American poets Kenneth Rexroth and Gary Snyder. I have published a book Buglers on the Home Front: The Wartime Practice of the Qiyue (July) School. My book is a study of a group of dissident writers active in the 1930s and 1940s in the Chinese leftist literary circles.
