Caroline Rupprecht

Professor of Comparative Literature, Queens College and The Graduate Center, City University of New York

Professor Rupprecht specializes in modern Germany and France and is the author of four books: Asian Fusion: New Encounters in the Asian-German Avant-Garde (2020), Womb Fantasies: Subjective Architectures in Postmodern Literature, Cinema, and Art (2013), Subject to Delusions: Narcissism, Modernism, Gender (2006), the Translation of Unica Zürn’s novel Dark Spring (2000, rep. 2008); and many journal articles.

She studied German Literature, Film and Theater at Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1986-88; and graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Comparative Literature from City College in 1991.

She received her PhD in Comparative Literature in 1999 from the Graduate Center, with her dissertation awarded the Carolyn G. Heilbrun Prize in Women’s Studies.

Her research was funded multiple times by the PSC-CUNY Research Foundation, as well as a 2014-15 Mellon Faculty Fellowship.

Professor Rupprecht has been teaching at the City University of New York since 1993, in subjects ranging from comparative modernisms, art and architecture, film, gender studies, critical theory, translation, migration and diaspora studies.
