Getting the Experience You Need

Internships are designed to give you practical work experience in your major. The purpose of a structured internship is to try to integrate what you learn in the classroom with the ‘real world’. The advantages of doing an internship are:

  • An ideal way of getting experience
  • Helps you to learn about how people interact in the workplace
  • Develop an understanding of the changing workplace
  • Helps you develop contacts which are important for job hunting or applying to graduate or professional school.

Learning Agreements

  •  Internships are designed to be meaningful, structured learning experiences. In order to insure this, students are required to meet with the Internship Coordinator to notify the Office of the placement and to pick up a copy of the ‘Learning Agreement’ form.
  • This form must be completed by the student, signed by the employer and returned to the Internship Coordinator within the first two weeks of an internship. The Internship Coordinator will review and sign the completed Learning Agreement. The placement will not be formalized until this step is completed.
