Preparing for the Career & Internship Fair can be a daunting task, but with the right approach and preparation you can make sure you make a great impression!
Here are resources to help you get the most out of your career fair experience:
Spring Hybrid Career & Internship Fair
Tips
-
Do your research: Before attending the career & internship fair, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the employers that will be attending and positions they are hiring for (see ‘Student Published List of Employers Recruiting Positions‘). Look up their websites, do some Google searches and find out what they do, what their culture is like, etc. This will help you prepare questions and also make sure you’re talking to the right people.
-
Have your resume ready: Make sure to bring several copies of your resume with you (you never know how many employers you’ll be talking to). Tailor your resume for each employer you’re interested in and highlight any skills or experience that are particularly relevant.
-
Dress for success: First impressions matter, so make sure to dress professionally. Business casual or business formal is usually the way to go — it’s a sign of respect for the companies and also shows that you’re serious about impressing them.
-
Practice your elevator pitch: You don’t have a lot of time to make a good impression at a career fair, so make sure you practice your elevator pitch. Think of a few questions you can ask to start the conversation and make sure you focus on what makes you unique and how you can add value to the company.
-
Follow up: After the career fair, don’t forget to follow up with the employers you talked to. Send them a thank-you email, connect on LinkedIn and keep them updated on your job search. This will demonstrate your dedication and help you stand out from the competition.
