B.B.A. in Accounting
The Department of Accounting & Information Systems offers accounting, information systems, business law, and taxation courses for accounting majors and other students. Accounting majors may prepare themselves for a career in public, private, or governmental accounting or for teaching accounting in higher education institutions. There are two alternative tracks to the accounting major, depending on the career objectives of the student:
Accounting Major – Advanced Accounting Track: This program targets students interested in becoming licensed Certified Public Accountants and pursuing careers in public accounting or senior financial roles in industry, government, or not-for-profit entities. The Advanced Accounting Track meets the educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam in New York State. This program has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 for courses in this track and a total of 63 credits. A minimum of 21 credits must be taken at Queens College for the major.
Accounting Major – Business Accounting Track: This program targets students for careers in the industry of financial accounting, managerial accounting, and accounting operations. The Business Accounting Track provides an opportunity to gain a basic understanding of accounting as the language of business. These accounting courses would also be a great fit as a second major with Computer Science and may resonate with student entrepreneurs in many industries. The Business Accounting Track does not meet educational requirements to sit for the CPA exam. This program has a minimum GPA requirement of 2.0 for courses in this track and a total of 40 credits. A minimum of 15 credits must be taken at Queens College for the major.
