Asian American Community Info Sheets (2015)

At the Asian/American Center (A/AC) of Queens College, City University of New York, we come across many questions about Asian Americans on a daily basis. These questions range from those seeking basic information about the composition of this diverse category to complex socio-economic, political and cultural community issues.
To further understanding and knowledge about Asian Americans, who are a significant part of the multicultural United States, we are presenting a series of informational sheets (Info Sheets) with basic information about Asian American populations and on selected aspects of their communities. The basic nature of the information in these sheets is intentional: it is directed to persons who want to acquaint themselves with Asian American communities. As a community-oriented research center, based in the NYC Borough of Queens, one of the most culturally diverse areas nationwide, we are fully aware that our identities are based not only on race, ethnicity, & cultures; but also shaped by migrations, cross-cultural collaborations and coalition-building. And lastly, in our attempt to understand and analyze our local Asian American communities, the Info Sheets focus more on New York City and the Borough of Queens.
We hope that this initial interest will propel further and deeper interest in this population and we encourage the viewers to use the references for this purpose.
