Queens College is committed to fostering a supportive and safe campus community. The Care and Concern Team plays a vital role in identifying and assisting students who may be facing academic, emotional, or behavioral challenges. We encourage faculty, staff, and students to reach out whenever they feel concern about a student.
What is the Care and Concern Team?
The Care and Concern Team is a trained multidisciplinary group dedicated to early intervention and student support. Our team includes members from Counseling Services, the Dean of Students Office, Judicial Affairs, Public Safety, as well as faculty members. We work together to assess, intervene, and connect students with the necessary resources to help them succeed.
When do you think you should contact us?
You should reach out to the Care and Concern Team if you notice:
- a student exhibiting signs of distress, withdrawal, or behavioral changes
- disruptive or concerning behaviors that impact learning or campus life
- individuals struggling with academic, personal, or emotional challenges
- situations where additional support or intervention is needed.
How to report a concern?
Online Reporting Form: Click here to access the form. (Reports received via the form are the most effective way for our team to collaborate and support our students.)
- In case of emergencies, please contact Public Safety at 718-997-5911.
- For immediate support, please contact Counseling Service at 718-997-5420.
All reports are handled privately and reviewed promptly to determine the best course of action. Early notification is key, and your referrals help us connect individuals with the appropriate resources before challenges escalate.
Our approach:
- Behavioral observation: Monitoring and documenting signs of distress to provide an informed assessment.
- Early identification and intervention: Addressing concerns before they escalate.
- Differentiating behavior from discipline: Focusing on root causes rather than punitive measures.
- Use of NABITA resources: Our team is trained by the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (NABITA), which ensures we apply best practices in behavioral intervention.
By working together we can create a campus environment where all students have the opportunity to thrive. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Care and Concern Team at care@qc.cuny.edu if you have any questions or would like information on how you can best support a student.
Thank you for your commitment to student success.
Best regards,
Care and Concern Team
