Assessment Support

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) supports the assessment efforts of the college with institutional data, data dashboards, and applied-research (e.g., impact evaluations, cohort studies, surveys, etc.). We can help you shape an assessment activity to make it valid and driven by answerable questions, help you interpret the assessment findings, and help you facilitate discussions with your colleagues about the results.

NOTE: It’s never too early to notify the OIE of a project you need our assistance with — Please aim to give us a 3-week lead ahead of time.

Request Institutional Data

Institutional data are widely available on (a) the QC College Profile, (b) the QC Tableau Server, (c) the CUNY Student Data Book, and (d) QC Navigate Staff. If the data you need are not available, submit a request (providing a 3-week lead):

DATA REQUEST FORM

IMPORTANT NOTES

(1) The OIE adheres to a strict interpretation of FERPA. The OIE may only provide aggregated, de-identified information, and only to QC members who have a need to know when fulfilling their official responsibilities.

(2)  All data shared by the OIE should be considered sensitive information. Any personnel working with the data should follow basic data security practices. In some cases, the requestor may need to complete a Restricted Use Agreement.

(3) The OIE receives a high volume of requests. It may take us a few days to respond to your inquiry, and the time it takes to receive data depends on the complexity of the request and availability of our staff. Please give us as much advance notice as possible.

Request Survey Assistance

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) can assist with all aspects of program assessment surveys including the design, sample creation, administration, analysis of responses, and summary of results (subject to availability and existing survey schedule).

Learn about OIE surveys here.

To request assistance, send an email to qc.oie@qc.cuny.edu with answers to following:

  1. Which department/program is making the request?
  2. What question(s) do you hope the survey will answer?
  3. Who is the target population?
  4. How will the survey results be used?
  5. What is the time frame of your project?
  6. What type of survey assistance do you need?

It is strongly recommended to contact the OIE before attempting to create a survey so that the methodology can be discussed ahead of time. If designing your own instrument, please consult our Best Practices in Survey Research, as good data only comes from good methodology. Department chairs and program directors may see our Program Assessment Survey Template or our Alumni Outcomes Survey Template for examples of appropriate question items and answer options.

Request Assessment Guidance

The Assessment Council provides feedback on annual assessment reports.

Assessment Coordinators guide committees and chairs throughout an activity.

Rebekah Chow, Associate Provost of Institutional Effectiveness, and Christopher Hanusa, Faculty Liaison for Evaluation and Assessment, can provide guidance to assessment committees, chairs, and directors on the assessment process.
