Our 2025/26 Season
The Bakkhai
Originally written by Euripides; A new version by Anne Carson
Directed by NJ Agwuna
Oct. 30-Nov. 9, 2025
Goldstein Theatre, Thurs-Sat at 7:00 & Sun at 3:00
Tix $15/$10 (QCID and Seniors); $5 Friday! $5 for all tix on 10/31
In the words of playwright Anne Carson, “The Bakkhai is Euripides most subversive play, telling the story of a man who cannot admit he would rather live in the skin of a woman, and a god who seems to combine all sexualities into a single ruinous demand for adoration. Dionysos is the god of intoxication. Once you fall under his influence, there is no telling where you will end up.”
Arise: The 2025 Fall Dance Concert
Directed by Edisa Weeks
Featuring the choreography of Marshall Davis Jr., Guanglei Hui, and Kiara Paige, as well as guest artist Xiania Barrera
Dec. 4-7, 2025
Goldstein Theatre, Thurs-Sat at 7:00 & Sun at 3:00
Tix $15/$10 (QCID and Seniors); $5 Friday! $5 for all tix on 12/5
Arise is a celebration of the resiliency and joy of dancing. Join us as Queens College students perform original choreography by Marshall Davis Jr. (Tap), Guanglei Hui (Asian-Contemporary), and Kiara Paige (Caribbean). Arise also features a new work performed by Xiania Barrera, the Bessie award nominated Flamenco dancer and CUNY Dance Initiative Artist in Residence at Queens College.
Marvin’s Room
Written by Scott McPherson
Directed by Claudia Feldstein
Mar. 5-Mar. 15, 2026
Thurs-Sat at 7:00, Sun at 3:00
Tix $15/$10 (QCID and Seniors); $5 for all tix on 3/6
The tale of one family’s journey through humor and heartache, separation and self-discovery, Marvin’s Room examines the ties that bind families together… whether they like it or not. Good-hearted Bessie has been taking care of her ailing father for twenty years, but now she’s the one who’s sick, and she must reconcile with her estranged sister, Lee. A remarkably humorous and tender play, this critically acclaimed family drama was dubbed by The New York Times as “one of the funniest plays of the year, as well as one of the wisest and most moving.”
Street Scenes
(produced in conjunction with the Aaron Copland School of Music)
Music by Kurt Weill, Lyrics by Langston Hughes and Book by Elmer Rice
Directed by Alex Paul Sheerin
Apr. 16-19, 2026
Goldstein Theatre, Thurs-Sat at 7:00 & Sun at 3:00
Tix $20/$15 (seniors)/$5 (QCID)
Kurt Weill called the American opera Street Scene, which won the inaugural Tony Award for Best Score in 1947 and was inspired by Elmer Rice’s play of the same name, his main musical dramatic work. The story brings the audience into the lives of the tenants of a shabby apartment building on a street in 1920s New York. Filled with hope, violence, love and disappointment, their stories unfold on the pavement in the evening and following morning of this hot day in June.
The 2026 Student Choreography Showcase

Applications are now open for the Martin Nuruddin Scholarship
The Nuruddin Scholarship is named in honor of Queens College DTD alumnus Martin Nuruddin, who spent 44 years as a member of IATSE and was the Vice President of PRG Orlando, one of the largest theatrical lighting suppliers in the world. This $1,200 award, sponsored by his family, is to be given annually to one DTD student who is pursuing a professional career in technical theatre. Students who are interested in this award must apply, as well as fulfill the prerequisite of having gotten a job working in a backstage or design capacity in a professional summer experience, including but not limited to—summer stock, theatre/dance camp, professional productions in Regional or off-Broadway settings, festivals, etc. It is intended for this scholarship to be a salary supplement, and make it possible for you, the students, to take an opportunity that might otherwise not be financially viable.
The application can be found here. You can also access a list of some of our faculty’s favorite companies to work for here, though the list is certainly not exhaustive. Students should also do their own research for opportunities to work backstage this summer. Many companies are already hiring. Students who have additional questions about this scholarship should please contact Ralph Carhart at ralph.carhart@qc.cuny.edu for more information. The deadline for this application is March 15, 2026.
The Department of Drama, Theatre & Dance offers the study of the subjects appropriate for a liberal arts degree. A balanced combination of theory and practice aims at giving an understanding of the arts of drama, theatre and dance that can serve as a foundation for graduate study. Every effort is made to provide scope for the development of individual talent and skills as a preliminary step for those students who intend to pursue future conservatory training for a stage or dance career.
The department offers strong, diversified academic programs in theatre (covering history, literature, acting, directing, stage management, design, and technical theatre), and dance (modern, ballet, tap, Asian and African dance, choreography, and history). Each year, on our three stages, the department presents a wide range of five fully realized productions. These are dramas and comedies, classic and modern plays, new plays, musicals, operas, and dance concerts. Under the guidance of faculty and guest directors and designers, student actors and dancers perform for audiences drawn from all segments of the college community, as well as Queens neighborhoods.
There are also several opportunities annually for student actors and dancers to produce and direct work under faculty supervision. In addition to providing opportunities for students to major or minor in Drama, Theatre & Dance, the department devotes many of its offerings to courses that satisfy mandated general education requirements in the liberal arts. Moreover, non-majors participate regularly and extensively in all aspects of our production program as actors, dancers, technicians, and backstage crew members.
