Guidelines for Reprinting Copyrighted Material for Use in the Classroom
The Office of Publications would like to remind faculty of the guidelines they must follow in reprinting copyrighted material for classroom use.
Reprographics can reprint up to 25 pages of classroom material per student per course each semester. Anything over this must be sold through the Campus Bookstore. All copyrighted material sent to Reprographics for printing must contain:
• the word Copyright or © symbol;
• author and title of work, where the work is taken from, and year of first publication or distribution;and
• name of copyright holder and letter granting permission to reprint.

Request to reprint that do not contain the above information will be returned.
If you believe you do not need permission because the material no longer is protected by copyright or because it is taken from a source that allows reprinting, you must say so in writing.
Note: Authors do not automatically have the right to reprint their own material if someone else holds the copyright. You also cannot assume that you may reprint older material from another language, because the translation may be copyrighted.
Contact Jane Denkensohn, Special Counsel to the President (997-5725),if you have any questions.
(The above information is from FYI, August 1999).
